After an adoption placement occurs, the average amount of time until finalization is about one year. However, it can be longer or shorter depending on the situation.

Myths About Adoption
Reality: Birthparents love their children greatly and that love never ceases. The choice to make an adoption plan for their child is often extremely difficult and heartbreaking.
Reality: Birth parents make an adoption plan for their child because they do not feel like they can parent at that time in their life. They understand that it is a permanent choice. If you have an open adoption, they simply desire a relationship with you and the child. They do not wish to parent or take the child from you.Â
Reality: Children have the ability to understand the dynamics of their adoption in that they have a birth family and an adoptive family, and they have the capacity to fully love both. In many cases, having an open adoption can further strengthen the bond between you and your child, as you help them process and navigate their adoption story.
Reality: Adoption is very different from foster care. The goal of foster care is to reunite the child with their biological family, while the goal of adoption is permanency. New Hope does not place children in foster care prior to placing them with the adoptive family.
